Sandstorm and International Festival

We may have avoided winter over the last few years, but apparently Santa and storms can still find us. The stories of blowing sandstorms left us with the picture of a light rain of sand gusting around. Well, as you can see below that is not exactly the case. A sand storm blew in and didn’t just limit visibility, it eliminated it. Picture the worst overnight snow storm you have ever driven in. The only difference was that the sun hadn’t gone down. I was on my way home from school and could not see the car directly in from of me, tail lights included. It went from a sunny afternoon to complete darkness in a couple of minutes. Once the storm cleared a little, I drove the entire way home with my hazard lights flashing. If you have seen the movie “The Mummy” with Brendan Fraser you will know what scene I am referring to when I say it was similar. If you haven’t seen it, you saved yourself two valuable hours of your life.

A regular day in Riyadh

This sandstorm coming into the city

Over the weekend our school also put on an International Festival. It was amazing to see all of our students leave their jeans at home and put on their traditional dress. Even a couple Canadians tried on a few different nationalities. Students and faculty from about 20 different countries set up booths that showed off different aspects from their culture. The Canadian booth had a mini-stick hockey arena set up that took a chunk of time out of our evening. The food was outstanding, great performances and camel rides to boot. Great night!

Nice ropin' sheriff. A true American hero.

That's two read-headed Indians....Is that genetically possible??

Camel rides for everyone....stoop and scoop please, that's our soccer field!!
