This past weekend we had a long weekend and took advantage of the extra day off to get out of the city for a day. We have been here for almost seven months now and thought it was pretty ridiculous that we haven’t stepped foot outside of this city (besides leaving by airplane on our holidays). And if you know our personality of getting outdoors and exploring new places, this excursion was long overdue.
We went with a few other teachers that we work with to a place a couple of hours from Riyadh called ‘Graffiti Rock’, which is a group of rocks where you can find hieroglyphics. We were impressed with the scenery as we left the chaos behind, and how utterly remote the desert seems with Riyadh so close by. Riyadh is built on a plateau, so we had to descend down the escarpment, and then pass by rolling red sand dunes before reaching our destination.
Below you can see the hieroglyphics - pretty amazing

Beautiful pictures! I have a soft place in my heart for sand and rocks. Love it! ~Jen
