I thought I’d dedicate some time on our blog to talk about our school since that is truly where we have spent the majority of our time and energy since we’ve been here. Our school rocks – we had a pep rally last week and that was the first pep rally that I’ve been to where everyone was genuinely excited and into it (we even had the wave going) and teachers didn’t have to pull teeth to get students to show school spirit.
It’s a really multicultural school – I have students from all over the world and there is not one dominant nationality. On the first day, when I was asking my students where they were from, quite a few didn’t know how to answer, because they had lived in so many places from around the world: Korea, Lebanon, Australia, Saudi Arabia, U.S., Canada, Sweden, Finland, U.A.E., and the list goes on. It makes for some interesting class discussions, when students have lived in Lebanon when it was being bombed in 2006, or experienced the tsunami in the Philippines.
Our students are probably the nicest kids we will ever teach. They actually still care about school, which in grade 8 is pretty rare. Usually there is so much drama in life at 13 that school ends up taking a backseat. It makes our days so much more enjoyable when we don’t have to deal with any behavioral problems. We also have smaller classes than what we’re used to – my biggest class is 18 kids, and Mike has 22 kids. It’s been a ton of work settling into new programs and curriculum, but overall, we really like our school and its positive atmosphere.
Let’s see what the school year brings and if we’re still talking this positively about our school come June!
Below are a few pictures taken around campus – just so you can visualize where we spend our days.

This is my humongous classroom...amazing isn't it?!
I'm a little jealous of your classroom. I have a class of 20 this year and a great group of kids. I'm feeling very lucky this year as well! Your campus looks pretty nice. Go eagles!
